Netherfriends – “Uptown Boys” [Music Video]

Video: Jordon Clark, Bryan Zawlocki, Shawn Rosenblatt, and Rich Jones
Edited by : Jordon Clark

Premiering today on Elevator, it’s the video to “Uptown Boys,” from NetherfriendsP3ACE album (the song itself originally debuted on SPIN last summer).

The video offers a peek into Netherfriends’ never-ending life on the road, and some cameos from a few Kimball House regulars (we see you Westley!).

P3ACE is available now at netherfriends.us

Netherfriends was recently spotted on NME‘s “Radar”- appearing in the publication’s section for new and noteworthy music in its January 25th issue, on newsstands now.

The one-man-band on-the-run will drop his new LP, #P3ACE, on March 3rd, but you can head over to his Bandcamp right now for the first 3 songs (3P).

It’s impossible to say what Shawn Rosenblatt is going to do next. Having already released his ‘50 Songs 50 States’ collection and a Miles Davis-inspired EP, he’s back with yet more new tunes. ‘3P’ consists of (you guessed it) three tracks that are hazier than a coffee shop in Amsterdam. Dabbling in reggae and R&B sensibilities, ‘3P’ is Netherfriends at his most slinky and seductive. This spring’s anthems have come early.  – NME

Netherfriends – “Kind Of Buzzed” Vol. 1-3

Netherfriends - "Kind Of Buzzed" Vol. 1-3

Inspired by Miles Davis’ album, Kind of Blue and the live video from the Beatles All You Need Is Love, Netherfriends’ project, “Kind of Buzzed,” features full instrumental improvisation with Chicago rappers adding freestyles live. After releasing a 51 song album called 50 Songs 50 States, Netherfriends aka Shawn Rosenblatt was exhausted from mixing and recording songs. So during the summer of 2013 at the Kimball House in Chicago, Shawn started recording live improvised beat sessions while rappers would lay down freestyles. The first session was recorded with Rich Jones, Chandler London, and BLAKKASS Westley at the Kimball House after a few hours of drinking and smoking. Other Kind Of Buzzed sessions took place at Cafe Mustache, Jugrnaut Clothing Store, and backyards.

The first three volumes of “Kind Of Buzzed” are now available for download, collectively or individually.

Sing to the tune of “The Bounce” by Jay-Z: “Rumor has it, the Netherfriends classic, couldn’t even be stopped by… Jay-Z’s… um… new album…” Or something like that.

Anyhow, 50 Songs 50 States is the culmination of a year long project where Netherfriends wrote and recorded a song- and performed a show, in every state in the USA from April 2010-2011.

Quit your job. Give up your lease. Drive your car around the country for one year. Write and a record a song in every state. Go to the beach. Go to the mountains. Go to the desert. Go somewhere. Go skateboarding. Go bowling. Get your van stolen. Get your laptop stolen. Run out of gas. Get into fights. Question your reason for living. Question your art. Explore. Discover. Love cities. Hate cities. Drink beer. Drink energy drinks. Drink sweet tea. Grow a beard. Sleep on a couch. Sleep in a parachute tent. Sleep on the floor. Sleep in a warehouse. Sleep in a van. Explain your project to the cops when you get pulled over. Play to an empty room. Play to a packed house. Play a BBQ in Oakland. Play a gallery in Seattle. Get addicted to coffee. Play a haunted venue in Vermont. Play a museum in Cape Cod. See Mt. Rushmore. See the Northern Lights. See the Golden Gate Bridge. Learn what Hawaii smells like. Learn that there is a town called Nampa in Idaho and play a show there. Learn the prices of produce in every state. Draw a self-portrait. Keep calm. Get angry. Make regrets. Don’t miss the cat; miss the girl. Record in a van at an abandoned gas station in Alabama. Record in a sun room. Record in a hotel bathroom. Do it. Do it better. Write about it all. Share it with the world.

Netherfriends on Vocalo’s Music Vox

P3ACE!

Netherfriends recently appeared on MusicVox, a music and talk program on Chicago’s public radio station, Vocalo. The one-man-band on-the-run discussed touring, the process of making his 50 Songs – 50 States project (dropping July 4th), and collaborating with Chicago Hip-Hop artists.

The MusicVox airs weekdays 4-6 PM on 90.7 FM (CHI)/89.5 (Northwest Indiana).  For more info, please visit vocalo.org

Quit your job. Give up your lease. Drive your car around the country for one year. Write and record a song in every state. That just might be the formula for writing a great album. At least that’s the one Netherfriends used to write his album – 50 Songs / 50 States. Shawn Rosenblatt, the man behind the project, joined Jesse Menendez to talk about his experiences traveling and producing the 50 song album as well as his newer endeavor – collaborating with Chicago’s hip hop community.
