Inspired by Miles Davis’ album, Kind of Blue and the live video from the Beatles All You Need Is Love, Netherfriends’ project, “Kind of Buzzed,” features full instrumental improvisation with Chicago rappers adding freestyles live. After releasing a 51 song album called 50 Songs 50 States, Netherfriends aka Shawn Rosenblatt was exhausted from mixing and recording songs. So during the summer of 2013 at the Kimball House in Chicago, Shawn started recording live improvised beat sessions while rappers would lay down freestyles. The first session was recorded with Rich Jones, Chandler London, and BLAKKASS Westley at the Kimball House after a few hours of drinking and smoking. Other Kind Of Buzzed sessions took place at Cafe Mustache, Jugrnaut Clothing Store, and backyards.
The first three volumes of “Kind Of Buzzed” are now available for download, collectively or individually.
Originally premiering on Ruby Hornet, “Ode To Joy…” was recorded live during the “Kind Of Buzzed Vol 2.” session at Cafe Mustache. Chandler London freestyles over an improvised, multilayered beat- provided by Netherfriends. Get the track below, mastered for your listening pleasure. Bonus: Video from the session, shot by Geoff Henao.
CHICAGO: Catch both Chandler and Netherfriends this Saturday- live at Kimball House Rock!
