Young Heavy Souls present their first official compilation album; 20 all-new tracks from a growing roster of skillful artists and producers. Get to know YHS:

These producers have captured their niche through unexplored sub-genres of hip-hop and electronic music. With their progressive sound, this body of work exemplifies what these artists value most – collaboration. Young Heavy Souls was established in 2011. Creative director, Matt Black cultivated a team of like-minded musicians, filmmakers, photographers, and graphic designers throughout the past three years.

“With this project we wanted to showcase our growth as a team as well as spread our music to new audiences. Young Heavy Souls is a family, and this project represents the spirit and sound of our crew,” explained Black.

The majority of the team consists of artists local to the Midwest, but they join forces with musical talents from all over the United States. All artists featured on the current roster have made themselves a valuable asset to this creation. Several guest contributing artists are featured, including Spankalicious, Eddie Logix, and Heavy Color.  – Young Heavy Souls

Netherfriends was recently spotted on NME‘s “Radar”- appearing in the publication’s section for new and noteworthy music in its January 25th issue, on newsstands now.

The one-man-band on-the-run will drop his new LP, #P3ACE, on March 3rd, but you can head over to his Bandcamp right now for the first 3 songs (3P).

It’s impossible to say what Shawn Rosenblatt is going to do next. Having already released his ‘50 Songs 50 States’ collection and a Miles Davis-inspired EP, he’s back with yet more new tunes. ‘3P’ consists of (you guessed it) three tracks that are hazier than a coffee shop in Amsterdam. Dabbling in reggae and R&B sensibilities, ‘3P’ is Netherfriends at his most slinky and seductive. This spring’s anthems have come early.  – NME

New Chi-t Featured In Chicago Reader’s Favorite Music Of 2013

Chicago Reader: Our Favorite Music Of 2013

This week, New Chi-t appeared on the front page of Chicago Reader. A collaboration between Netherfriends and a slew of Chicago artists, the project was featured in the Hip-Hop segment of The Reader’s  Favorite Music of 2013:

Overlooked Chicago hip-hop | Leor Galil

Netherfriends, New CHI-t
Nomadic indie-popper Shawn Rosenblatt (aka Netherfriends) is no stranger to hip-hop: 2011’sNetherfriends Does Nilsson includes a wobbly, funky tune called “Full of It” with local MC ShowYouSuck. That track also appears on New CHI-t, a rap-centric collection of Netherfriends collaborations featuring local hip-hop acts such as the Whoevers, Fess Grandiose, and Impolite Society. Rosenblatt molds his psychedelic-tinged pop—sometimes peppy, sometimes wistful, sometimes both at once—into the foundation for fun hip-hop tracks. The Sublime-sampling “Summertime” in particular makes me yearn for warm-weather adventures even more than I usually do.
